ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) movements have already scored most of the easy wins, primarily in respect of the "E".
For corporations, understanding, measuring, disclosing and managing their climate risks and footprints is etched into their DNA, but investors are starting to warn of a potential backlash amid growing allegations of "greenwashing".
Because, while the focus has been on the "E", far less attention has been paid to the "S".
Which raises the question: without the continuation of our society, is the sustainability of our environment pointless?
Faced with male-centric life and career choices, many women are going on a baby-making strike and our population is shrinking fast. Already according to the UN, fertility in all European countries is now below the level required for full replacement of the population in the long run and the same is starting to happen in Asia at an alarming rate.
Corporations need to stop simply counting how many women they have in senior positions and congratulating themselves on the result, and start looking at workplace initiatives that give women a genuine equal share, with real options to live the life they want.
Falling populations will impact businesses at all levels. Changing corporate attitudes and strategies is a discussion that needs to start now, and which no one can afford to ignore.
In this talk, Nicole Yuen, the Founder and CEO of the Women Workplace Index will share her insights, as well as how and why, together we, the corporate community, can change the status quo.
