Dr. Annika Bolten-Drutschmann assumed her role as Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Hong Kong and Macau in July 2025. In her role, she is dedicated to further strengthening the partnership between Germany and Hong Kong and to driving new initiatives for the future.
Previously, the political economist held various positions at the German Federal Foreign Office, both in Germany and abroad, including postings in Singapore, Jakarta, Moscow and Baghdad, as well as at the Foreign Office headquarters in Berlin. She also worked in the Ministry’s Policy Planning Staff. These diverse experiences continue to shape her diplomatic work in one of Asia’s most dynamic regions.
In this episode, she talks about what makes Hong Kong so fascinating to her, the topics currently on her agenda, and how she views the future of Germany-Hong Kong relations.
