AHK World Business Outlook: Fall 2022

17/11/2022

Internationally operating German companies are facing major challenges in their business environment in almost every corner of the globe. Yet, the economic outlook in many regions is not as pessimistic as in Europe and Germany, as the latest edition of the AHK World Business Outlook shows. The DIHK survey collected feedback from over 3,100 German companies worldwide from 4 to 23 October 2022.

German companies abroad are expecting a frosty winter for the global economy, mainly due to the repercussions of the Russian war against Ukraine and China’s ongoing zero-covid strategy. According to the survey, almost every second company (47%) was expecting an economic downturn in their respective locations. This marks the highest percentage since the World Business Outlook in spring 2020 at the beginning of the Corona pandemic (65%).

However, despite a dampened economic outlook, especially in Europe, companies in the Asia-Pacific region (excluding China), Africa, the Near and Middle East, as well as South and Central America and North America remained somewhat robust. Almost half (45%) of the companies reported a ‘good’ business situation (down from 48% in the previous survey). Another 45% found their business to be ‘satisfactory’ while only one in ten companies reported a ‘poor’ business situation.
