Dual System Professional Training programmes – 'Wholesale & Foreign Trade Management Assistant' and 'Transport and Logistics Management Assistant' are offered according to German standards and the German Dual System.

These programmes are arranged by German Industry and Commerce, in co-operation with the German Swiss International School (GSIS) in Hong Kong.

How does the Professional Training Programme work?

Practice: Each year about 30 youths begin their professional training for ‘Wholesale and Foreign Trade Management Assistant’ or ‘Transport and Logistics Management Assistant’. The training takes two years. Like in Germany, the trainees work in a company for 3.5 days for practical on-the-job training and attend classes for 1.5 days for theoretical education, provided by a teacher trained for the professional training school especially. The professional training and the examinations follow the guidelines of the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).

The training companies are large international trading, transport and logistics companies as well as industrial enterprises either based in or with representative offices in Hong Kong. The companies enter into training contracts with the trainees. The salary for the first year is HK$ 8,000 and HK$ 9,000 for the second year of the training programme. Following to the vocational training ordinance and training guidelines, the training takes place by rotation through all relevant departments of the company. English is the business language of the companies.

Theory: The German Swiss International School Business College provides for the theoretical tuition. The subjects included are: General Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Organization, Data processing, Conversational German, Conversational English, Mathematics and Politics. The professional training teacher and head of the Business College is delegated to Hong Kong by the German "Central Committee for Education Abroad" (Zentralstelle fuer Auslandsschulwesen). The school fees are HK$ 42,000 for the course period 2018 – 2020 (subject to EDB approval).

Who can apply?

Applicants need to be fluent in German and have a good command of English. Minimum school qualification is Mittlere Reife (or equivalent qualification).
