Commemorating 500 years of Martin Luther’s infamous posting of his 95 theses on the doors of the All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, GCC organised a breakfast roundtable discussion on the very day the “Reformation” began half a millennium earlier, which led to the eventual split into the Lutheran Evangelical and the Catholic Church. Dr. Volker Thiedemann, Senior Pastor of the German Protestant Church in Hong Kong and some 20 GCC members and representatives of the German business community engaged in a lively debate on the topic “Luther – People - Business”. Dr. Andreas Meier, Vice President Corporate Affairs Asia Pacific of BASF added momentum to the discussion with an outline of his company’s understanding of the interdependencies modern entrepreneurship needs to observe, balancing moral obligations on one hand and responsibilities towards its owners, employees and the society at large on the other. The event was very well received by all participants as refreshingly different from the topics a chamber of commerce normally engages in.
